I have trained in martial arts, off and on, for over thirty years. I reached 1st dan standard at Shotokan karate and won medals at Tang soo do, but still never felt that I was an effective fighter.
In the 1990s I trained for eight years in Dan Docherty's ferocious and beautiful style of Tai Chi. Even after becoming an 'inside the door' student, and learning secret moves and 12 yin Nei Gung (Tai Chi's iron shirt) exercises, I still felt that there were many ways that I could lose a fight against a skilled, tough and determined adversary.
After stumbling across Sifu Mark's club on the internet, I decided to drop in and give it a go. I realised how effective this style is after the very first lesson, and it was confirmed to me a few weeks later when I was dumped unceremoniously on my back after laying into an advanced student!
I like the big punches and kicks of Karate, and Tang Soo Do, I love the beauty and power of Tai Chi but this style of Wing Chun has given me the ability to fight!
